Five Flaming Hotties Tag

Hello, friends!

I feel like I’m back on the elementary school playground because I have been tagged! Catherine from Thoughts All Sorts tagged me for the Five Flamming Hotties tag that was created by her and Gill from Realweegiemidget Reviews.  The rules are fairly straightforward:

  1. You must add the name of the blog who tagged you AND those of the 2 Reel Quirky Cats, Thoughts All Sorts and Realweegiemidget Reviews with links to these sites as given here… and use the natty picture promoting this post (found to the right, click for full size).
  2. List 5 of your all time greatest hotties from TV or Film. ie crushes / objects of your affection.
  3. Say how you were introduced to them, and why you like them (keep it clean)
  4. Link to 7 other bloggers.
  5. Add lovely pictures of those you selected.
  6. Post the rules.

Well, I’ve already taken care of the first requirement so let’s jump straight into my five favorite hotties from TV or film. Since I could have also included athletes, a close runner up was Alex Morgan.

Now, onto my list:

Salma Hayek5) Salma Hayek

My best friend and I watched Wild Wild West all the time, and I would be lying if I said Salma Hayek wasn’t one of the reasons why.  When she is wearing not much more than a corset, it is enough to make a teenage boy weak in the knees.  Besides her looks, she can command the screen just as good as any male co-star she is working with.  I’ll admit that I haven’t seen many of her more recent films but she’ll always have a place in my heart as on of my first crushes.

Jaimie Alexander4) Jaimie Alexander

I first saw Jaimie Alexander in Thor as the ass-kicking Sif then shortly thereafter in The Last Stand.  Not only was she drop-dead gorgeous, she could kick-ass, too! Strong and beautiful, what more could you want? When she transitioned to the small screen in the TV series Blindspot, I jumped on immediately and haven’t been disappointed in both her or the show.

Anna Kendrick3) Anna Kendrick

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World served as my introduction to Anna Kendrick.  I instantly fell in love with her quirky attitude, especially outside of films.  Watching her in interviews and looking through her twitter feed, she seems so chill and down-to-Earth.  Oh, did I mention she has a beautiful singing voice, too? So let’s get the run down: she’s adorable, she’s cute, she’s funny, and she’s a great singer. Basically, she’s the ultimate girl next door.

Emma Watson2) Emma Watson

Like many, I was introduced to Emma Watson as Hermione in the Harry Potter series. Since then, she has gone on to do many great things, especially outside of acting. She has a bachelor’s degree in English literature, she’s a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, she’s a leading advocate for gender equality and she’s done some modeling for good measure. She might just be the perfect combination of brains and beauty.

Emma Stone1) Emma Stone

My number one flaming hottie was a no brainer (or was it a half brainer with a double twist?). Ever since Emma Stone hit the scene in Superbad and Easy A, I have had a tremendous crush on her.  This girl can take any role and make it fun and memorable.  Last year, she finally got the recognition she deserves with her best actress Oscar.  Although I like her red hair better than her natural blonde, she’s beautiful regardless of hair color.

Now that I’ve shared my Five Flaming Hotties, I guess all that’s left is to tag a few others. I tag

Thanks for the tag, Catherine! It was sure hard trying to narrow it down to only five.  I hope those of you who I tagged will participate.

Who are some of your flaming hotties?

Until next time, cheers!

The Last Stand Review

The Last Stand movie posterSynopsis
When Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) escapes from FBI custody, he makes a break for the US-Mexico border. His escape leads him through Sommerton Junction, Arizona, where the local Sheriff, Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his inexperienced deputies attempt to prevent his escape while waiting for reinforcements from Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker).

Review
So after almost a decade of being out of film, with the exception of a few cameos, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back on the big screen. The Last Stand offers Schwarzenegger a way to get back into the swing of things. It isn’t one of Schwarzenegger’s best movies, but it isn’t one of his worst, either. This movie won’t get any awards for being original, but it brings great action from start to finish.

This film takes it’s time introducing all the characters and setting up the story. However, once the action does start, it is huge. And it doesn’t stop, or even really slow down for that matter. Every scene there is at least one explosion or gunfight (or both). It feels like a modern western.

Schwarzenegger throws out one-liners like he is back in the 1980s again. However, except for a handful, none of them are very memorable. This movie plays on the fact that Schwarzenegger is getting older. Despite being 65-years-old, he is still intimidating as ever. He may still be getting back into movies, but if this is where he is starting, then it bodes well for his future movies.

The supporting cast is excellent in this film. Luis Guzman brings his signature humor to his role as senior deputy. Jamie Alexander is becoming one of my favorite actresses. She has really proven herself in the Thor movies and does great here, too. The stand out supporting cast member is Johnny Knoxville. He doesn’t get much screen time, but when he does show up, he gets some pretty good laughs.

Schwarzenegger does great in his return to the big screen. The Last Stand starts slow, but once the action starts, it doesn’t stop. Schwarzenegger offers up some quips evocative of his films from his 1980s and 1990s heydays. The supporting cast is one of the best and Knoxville had the stand-out performance. The Last Stand is a modern western that puts the pedal to the metal and doesn’t let up.

Thor: The Dark World Review

Thor: The Dark World movie posterSynopsis
In the aftermath of Loki’s (Tom Hiddleston) treachery, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returns to Asgard after bringing peace across the Nine Realms. However, Malakith (Christopher Eccleston) and the Dark Elves return after a 5,000 year slumber. They plan to use The Aether, a force older than the Universe itself, to destroy the cosmos and return everything to darkness. Thor must face an enemy that even his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) can’t withstand, in order to save everything, and everyone, he loves.

Review

Marvel Studios told some great stories in their Phase One slate of movies, culminating in the grand and marvelous The Avengers. But they are really hitting their stride in their Phase Two movies. Thor: The Dark World took cues from The Avengers and is funny yet serious, without becoming comical (in the bad way).

Probably what I like best about Thor 2 is that it develops so many of the characters, particularly Loki. Despite finding out his true heritage as a Frost Giant in Thor, and attacking Earth in The Avengers, we learn there are still people he cares about. Loki has become one of (if not the) best villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is a multifaceted character that is hard to trust but easy to love.

Anything that comes out of Kat Dennings mouth in this movie is comedy gold. I don’t think she said anything that I didn’t at least chuckle at, let alone laugh out loud. Stellan Skarsgård plays a crazy Erik Selvig perfectly. I think I missed the explanation of why he went coo-coo (It was from his manipulation at the hands of Loki in The Avengers, fyi), but it was an interesting turn for the character that Skarsgård pulled off. Easily, though, the best performance of the film belongs to Tom Hiddleston. It is hard to image anyone else in the role nowadays. Hiddleston has come to embody the character so well.

The action this time is bigger than it was in Thor. The scale of it is somewhere between Thor and The Avengers. Instead of just Asgard, now all of the Nine Realms are in trouble, culminating in a showdown between Thor and Malakith in London. The final showdown looks fantastic. The special effects are well done, especially considering the fight bounces between Earth and the different Realms.

Like all Marvel Studio movies, this film as a scene to set up a future film. So don’t forget to watch all the way to the end of the credits, because there is both a mid-credits and post-credits scene (Now Marvel is just getting obnoxious). The mid-credits scene can be compared to the post-credits scene in Iron Man. In Iron Man, it showed the course the movies would take in Phase One. Here, it shows the story arch the movies could take potentially up to Avengers 3.

Thor: The Dark World continues to build off previous Marvel films, while also standing alone. Tom Hiddleston has completely become the character of Loki, who gets some great character development. Great comedic timing by several actors and bigger action, really giving gravity to the threat, keeps Marvel’s Phase Two moving along strong.
