Official Synopsis: It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.
This trailer is packed full of action, which looks amazing (pun intended). More importantly, we get good shots of several villains, including Electro, Rhino, and the Green Goblin. There were also glimpses of the Vulture’s wings and Doctor Octopus’s arms in an OsCorp facility about halfway through the trailer. It looks like they are moving towards the Sinister Six, but I have mixed feelings about Sony bringing them in this early, if that is the route they are going. As much as I want to see the Sinister Six on screen, they should be a culmination of villains introduced throughout several films, not new ones introduced that movie. It also goes back to one of the reasons I enjoyed the first Amazing Spider-Man: a single villain. Having too many enemies to focus on (usually) moves the focus away from the hero and their supporting cast.
In any case, I’m excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Any chance to see Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter and Gwen is a treat. Finally seeing why Peter’s parents just up and left, and what was/is going on at OsCorp should be interesting. There is more to Aunt May than meets the eye, she already looks like a much deeper character than her comic book counterpart.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed by Marc Webb, will be in theaters May 2, 2014 and sees the return of Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Sally Field as Aunt May, as well as introducing Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn.
